Welcome to The Ark
The Ark is one of Manchester’s resource provision units which caters for 7 primary aged children with statements or Education, Health and Care Plans with a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder or specific language impairment. Due to the children's needs, there is a high level of staffing: a lead teacher (who is also the school's SENDCo), 2 specialist support teaching assistants, teaching assistants and a full time Speech and Language Therapist. All staff are trained to meet the children's learning, social and speech and language needs.
In The Ark we have a regular routine and provide a small, nurturing environment in which children feel safe and secure. Staff work with children to support all aspects of their learning and development: from maths and Literacy to communication, social skills and independence.
The children in The Ark have the opportunity to work with their mainstream peers. Some of our children integrate for maths and Literacy, whilst others enjoy Topic, PE and Music with the other classes.
We follow the national curriculum and provide an individually tailored curriculum for our pupils. The children enjoy multisensory activities to help them learn and remember. Trips out and inviting visitors into school are planned to enrich our curriculum for the pupils; to provide them with life experiences and to reinforce their learning.
We work closely with parents to keep them informed of their child's progress and day in school and, likewise, we encourage close communication from them to tell us about particular issues or general news.
