Numeracy

Our Numeracy Vision

Our aim is for all children at St Willibrord’s to have a positive experience and perception of mathematics. We aim that they will leave our school having developed a lifelong passion and enthusiasm for mathematics.

We aim to achieve this by:

  • Providing opportunities for child led learning through exploration
  • Developing pupils’ procedural and conceptual fluency so that number facts are embedded
  • Delivering a curriculum that enables wide opportunities for fluency, reasoning and problem solving
  • Enabling pupils to develop and secure their competence and confidence in mathematical knowledge, concepts and skills
  • To develop pupil resilience, especially when problem solving
  • A consistent teaching and learning approach for all pupils, which enables them to build upon their learning from Early Years through to Key Stage Two, using and developing a wide range of mathematical concepts and methods
  • Supporting all pupils’ to develop a deeper understanding and enjoyment of mathematics, through a structured mastery approach

We use the 'Maths No Problem' scheme of work. This is supplemented by the ‘Number Sense’ activities in Foundation and Key Stage One. We are currently undertaking training in the Numeracy Mastery Approach supported by the North West Maths Hub.
