Year 6
Welcome to our class page.
We have been working hard to develop our mental arithmetic skills this term; we have been learning formal written methods to calculate and have been practising our number agility skills.
In Religion we have been learning about the Kingdom of God. We have be looking at how having values helps us to respond to our invitation to the Kingdom of God. The children thoroughly enjoy this and have very positive and mature attitudes to our Paths and Caritas lessons. Beat the teacher is becoming a very popular game with the children too!
Home commitment
Homework is given out on a weekly basis. Spelling and mental maths homework will be set on a Friday and collected in the following Friday. The children may also be given research homework during the term. If homework is not handed in or completed to the expected standard, children will have to complete the work during Golden Time. If children are absent when homework or spellings are given out, it is their responsibility to get the relevant work from the teacher. Please help your children to organise their free time, enabling them to complete homework on time.
The children are expected to read aloud to an adult regularly at home and a record of their reading should be kept in their reading diary. Please make sure that you still do this and ask them questions about the text they have read. Please understand that although your child may be able to read words very well, it may not necessarily mean that they understand them or the context in which they are being used.
PE kits are required on Thursday and Friday. As the children in year 6 lead ‘wake and shake’ programme it would be ideal if they had suitable footwear with them every day.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any problems or queries, either through the homework diary, at the end of the day or via the office.
